July 18, 2024 – The Road Accident Victims Protection Company Limited as Thailand National Bureau of Insurance, and Dhipaya Insurance Public Company Limited, have signed a memorandum of understanding to use the ASEAN Compulsory Motor Insurance (ACMI) system. This system will provide compulsory motor insurance to cross-border travelers entering Thailand, through an electronic policy (Online Real-Time).
In accordance with the ASEAN Framework Agreement on the Facilitation of Goods in Transit (AFAFGIT), signed by all 10 ASEAN member countries, the agreement includes 9 protocols developed to promote the trade and facilitate the movement of goods within the ASEAN region. The agreement aims to create a more unified and efficient system while also encouraging the use of information technology for seamless cross-border transportation.
To facilitate travelers and transport operators in obtaining compulsory motor insurance quickly and easily, the Road Accident Victims Protection Company Limited in collaboration with ASEAN member countries has developed the ASEAN Compulsory Motor Insurance System (ACMI). This system provides a central online platform for issuing compulsory motor insurance policies and Blue Cards across all ASEAN member countries. By connecting through the ASEAN ACMI platform, National Bureaus of all member countries can assist accident victims and coordinate with insurance companies to manage claims effectively during cross-border incidents .
The Road Accident Victims Protection Company Limited has collaborated with Dhipaya Insurance Public Company Limited to integrate the ACMI system. Dhipaya Insurance is the first company ready to offer compulsory motor insurance to cross-border travelers entering Thailand. Users can easily obtain insurance through the website www.aseancob.org and receive immediate coverage with an Electronic Blue Card to show proof of insurance to officials when crossing borders.
